LUK is an open mic and so much more!
The first objective of LUK is to provide a listening room for musicians to perform for each other, either for the love of music or in order to further their own talents and careers!
The second objective of LUK is to provide a platform for local artists to meet and work with regional artists in order to establish working relationships for future gig-swapping and artistic support.
The third objective of LUK is to provide a forum for the discussion of ideas related to the music industry.
The Wolf Pack is a group of like-minded artists and industry-related professionals who wish to work together to perform the tasks that previously have been provided by record labels; this includes booking, promotion. managment, publishing, recording and much more!
Each week open mic performances will be paired with a feature act and the feature band will perform a 30- minute set. The feature act will have the benefit of being exposed to the fans of the local talent and a guaranteed audience.
RULES:

Open-mic performers must sign up for specific times BEFORE the day of show or at Relix between 7:30-8pm.
Open mic performers must arrive between 7:30-8 to sign in or their slot will be given up. Performers may also text 865-719-0651 during that time to confirm. Please make an effort to attend the entire evening. Those that do will receive preferred time slots. You may also email listenupknoxville@gmail.com to reserve your spot.
Performers receive 10 minutes. No exceptions. Original material is preferred and necessary to be considered for the grand prize.
5. One winner will be announced at the end of the evening. The winner will proceed to the finals in December.

(Currently this series is free, but will in the future necessitate a small cover to continue)
$2 cover for everyone EXCEPT local/regional featured band. Open-mic performers will be asked to pay $2 in order to help the out-of-town band. Door goes to out-of-town band for travel expense. $2 is CHEAP for the experience and knowledge and contacts that will be gained. Consider it an investment in the music community!
MESSAGE FROM ME, CHRISTINA:
Welcome everyone! I am so excited to get this series rolling. I have been going to Eddie’s Attic for a few years now and I always come home wishing we had something similar to offer. The reason I love it so much is because it was my first taste of what a listening room feels like. And it was the first time a very green artist like myself got to experience a full room of people tuned into what I was trying to say and play. I always came out of there feeling like, “yeah, I can do this music thing...people like it...people care.”
Now I want to try and create that same feeling here at home. One of the things that makes Eddies’ so unique is that every Monday people pour into the venue knowing that they are going to get a great show. Artists sign-up 6 weeks in advance and wait to play. They also are mixed in with professional touring acts that come through the venue because Monday is their off-night. Those touring artists become great networking friends, and also serve to teach the younger artists how to put on a good show.
At the end of each night, a judge has narrowed down the selection to his/her 3 favorite artists. The three finalists each return to the stage and play one more song. After that, a winner is selected and that artists moves onto the finals. The prize is usually a high-profile gig, recording time and a little bit of money. I believe that having something tangible to work for inspires some artists to work even harder at their craft-even though we all know it is not possible to chose a “best” when it comes to music.
At Relix, I hope to create that listening room feeling and lift our local talent up. I believe if the series is consistent, then it will grow and more and more touring acts will hear about us and want to utilize the experience! Each week I will allow people to call or email me to set up their open mic time. The schedule will run from 8-10. Their will be a featured band at 10pm and then the open mic will resume until midnight. The winner of the evening will be announced at midnight.
The winner will advance to the open mic finals in December. There will be a highly-promoted showcase for all the winners and the grand prize winner will receive the following: their own show at Relix with full-promotion and Hudson K as support, studio time at Famous London Recording Studio (10 hours), poster design, logo design, and a photo-shoot.
I will be looking for people to help me in anyway possible. I am just one person and I believe this endeavor will take a village. But I have faith in our community and look forward to seeing everyone shine!
